Tony Hawk

Tony Hawk Skateboarding

Tony Hawk was born on May 12, 1968 in San Diego, California.  He had 2 sisters and one brother.  When Tony was 9, his brother gave him a blue fibreglass banana board.  That was the beginning of skateboarding history.

For the next few years, Tony entered skateboard contests throughout California.  His father founded the National Skateboard Association.  By age 14, Tony was a pro skater, and was the best skater in the world by 16.  He competed for 17 more years in about 103 pro contests, winning 73 of them.

Since he stopped competing, Tony has founded a clothing line, written an autobiography and has one of the best selling video game franchises of all time with his Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video games for PlayStation.

Tony gives back to the sport through the Tony Hawk Foundation.  The foundation has help build 390 new skateparks around the USA, mainly in low income areas.

Tony Hawk gives us a behind the scenes look for his Project 8.  Watch him put on a motion capture suit and do some tricks while he explains how they capture the technology for his video games.
