This is the Nishihara High School marching band performing in 2001.  This marching band went on to win the Nationals and the Worlds. Marching bands are a group of instrumental musicians dressed the part. Instrument types are brass, woodwinds, percussion and there are several different types of each instrument played in unison to give each section a louder effect when played outdoors. A single clarinet player would be hard to hear, but a row of clarinet players easily communicate that part of the music.

Marching bands perform at parades, shows, sports functions and special events. Most schools have a band program where you can participate in learning a marching band instrument and playing in the ensemble.
