Competitive Group Dance Performance
Here is Katrina with her competitive acro group performing at a dance competition. Acro dance combines gymnastics moves and dance moves to music. Acro is Katrina’s favourite type of dance. Not all competitive studios teach acro, so if that is what you want to learn – check with the studio to see if it is offered. You can also do some extra gymnastics training to learn more tumbling and tricks.
For this dance, we are supposed to be ‘Wonder Women’. It is a bit hard to tell by the video, but we have costumes similar to the super hero character, complete with gold stars. We don’t wear shoes for acro since we need to grip the floor for our tumbling passes and gymnastics moves. It does make it harder to turn sometimes, depending on the stage.
Competitive dance gets us in front of bigger audiences so it helps us become better dancers. Remember – don’t try the gymnastic and tumbling moves without supervision and training. We don’t want anyone to get hurt!
